JEDI MINISTRY - JESUS EMPOWERED DISCIPLES INTERNATIONAL

Michael obtained both his Bachelor of Business Marketing degree and Graduate Diploma in Business Systems from Monash University (Melbourne); and also a Diploma in Special Education from the National Institute of Education (Singapore). After graduation, he worked as a marketing executive and later as a teacher in a special school where he taught children with autism.

He now serves in Hope Church (Singapore) as a member of the pastoral staff in the Adults Ministry looking after the Young Adults group including JEDI (Jesus Empowered Disciples International). He is currently pursuing a Masters in Theological Studies with the Assembly of God Bible College (AGBS), Singapore.

About JEDI

The JEDI is a ministry of Hope Church Singapore which started in the year 2007 with the vision to reach out, enfold and empower young overseas graduates and young internationals in Singapore.

Vision of JEDI

The leaders of JEDI believe God planted the vision in their hearts because Singapore is a city where many internationals go to study and work. God desires to reach out to them because of His love for them. It is not easy being a foreigner in a new land, and that’s where JEDI comes in.

The overseas graduates share similar experiences having studied or worked overseas. The Internationals are able to share each others’ struggles of living in a land away from home (finding accommodation, new environment, new food, transitioning from student to working life etc.), while the Singaporeans (having overseas exposure) in the group play a key role in helping to make the Internationals feel at home.

A place of genuine friendship

This warm, yet dynamic group currently consists of young working adults from over eight countries and friends from many others. They were attracted and enfolded into the group because of the exciting, contemporary and diverse activities and more importantly, because of the genuine friendship and love of Christ exhibited by the people of JEDI. On weekends, they visit different places in Singapore or chill out together for sports and food. This group has tried many activities such as dragon-boat races and marathons, and celebrates the festivals of different cultures in the group!

A place of spiritual growth

Much importance is also placed on providing spiritual food to the members to build up everyone to be global and missions minded. The leaders are convicted that God desires to build up the internationals so that they can play a key role in fulfilling the Great Commission in their home countries and wherever they travel.

Thus if you are:
  • A Singaporean recently graduated from your studies overseas or;
  • An international new to Singapore;
  • Student studying overseas and are back here for holidays,
You are more than welcome to experience God with us in this fun-loving community.

JEDI testimonies

Ronald and Leslie

To many coming to Singapore after graduation, there are so many wishes/dreams to be realised. JEDI has gone beyond simply helping overseas graduates fit into the Singaporean lifestyle with their thoughtfully planned programmes, but they have brought a wonderful Christ-like love and family that we didn’t expect coming back to working life in Singapore. We salute you leaders and regulars in JEDI!

Hendry

I graduated from Curtin University, Australia in 2007. I decided to come to Singapore to look for work and I really thank God for Hope Singapore's ministry (JEDI) that helped me settled down in Singapore. I have been a part of JEDI ministry for about 7 months. Since many of us are overseas graduates, I found it easier to adapt to the people and the culture. Through its many activities and fellowship, JEDI ministry has helped me to adapt and grow in God. I believe JEDI ministry will be able to be a bridge between the internationals and life in Singapore.

I believe God has formed this group especially for me and for fresh graduates who came from overseas. In this group, I was given the opportunity to meet and know people from different backgrounds and walks of life. The group has given me the golden opportunity to grow and most importantly to touch more lives especially new overseas graduates. I feel a strong sense of belonging to this group. Because of the strong and biblical church and the JEDI group, I found myself getting closer to my spiritual walk with God each day. Not only that, the life in Singapore is after all very exciting. This is one of the best cities, if not the best city.

Before I started work, I prayed to God that I will still be given time to serve Him in church despite the crazy work load of an auditor. And praise God! He answered my prayers! I was even given the chance to share Christ in my workplace. Thank God for the JEDI group again as they always help me to keep in touch with my colleagues whom I try to reach out.
