INTRODUCTION TO CONNECT JOURNAL

Dr Wilson Lim Sharing on Connect Journal

CONNECT is about connecting believers with God on a consistent basis and with increasing quality. Believers are only truly empowered by heaven when connected to the Almighty.

Empowered believers with a connectedness with God will be better tuned into His specific will and purposes for their lives and the Church. Such believers will make a difference in their community and even the world!

Just like Mary who made time to sit at the feet of Jesus, we need to slow down from our fast-paced lifestyles to be before the presence of God – connecting with God, hearing His gentle voice, absorbing the eternalness of His Word into our hearts. There is no better way to allow God to make Himself known and to know Him for ourselves.

CONNECT is a specially designed journal to help you on your personal spiritual journey. Each day, it draws you to God and to learn from Him, rather than from someone else’s experiences.

It is far more than just a devotional journal. It is a comprehensive journal intended to spur you on your journey of discovery with God by guiding you to plan your personal goals for spiritual growth.

In this new edition, there has been a major change in design to further improve its effectiveness. A new contemporary look. Discover the three categories of questions for each day that targets different objectives – as you may choose. And a bigger four-monthly format, as well as more space to record your thoughts.

Do carefully read the section on “What this Journal Provides...” to maximise the effectiveness of this journal.

We appreciate the feedback from users who have helped sparked these improvements.

New Connect Journal - Book of Mathew

Key Theme of Matthew: Jesus, the King of our lives.

Did you know Jesus is meant to be the King of your life? Did you know you are destined to reign with Him in this life and for all eternity?

The book of Matthew shows how God’s people were earnestly waiting to be rescued from their oppressive Roman rulers when Jesus came. They desperately wanted to see the Messiah establish His new kingdom; that which Daniel and the other prophets had written about: “He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion...” (Dan 7:14)

Matthew tells us Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey while so many people joyfully proclaimed Him king, “Hosanna to the son of David” (Mt 21:9). By referring to Jesus as David’s son, they were proclaiming Jesus the Messiah, King, Saviour and the very One whom the inspired prophets many centuries before
had promised would come and rule. Hosanna mean
s “to save.” The people looked to Jesus to rescue them, just as we do today. Matthew reveals we have the same great King. His name is Jesus. He will always save us when we call on Him. One day our King will return to establish His earthly kingdom and crush all of Satan’s evil forces. Then He will establish His everlasting kingdom, together with those who love Him and have their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

The book of Matthew was written to clearly identify Jesus as the Messiah (Kings, prophets and priests were anointed during Old Testament times; hence Jesus is called the Anointed One, which is what “Messiah” or “Christ” means in Greek), unmistakably identifying Jesus as God’s promised Messiah or Saviour.

Thus we can be sure of Jesus’ identity. Matthew shows us how Jesus clearly fulfilled all that the prophets had prophesied.

Unfortunately, many Jews were either ignorant of the Scriptures or, due to strong preconceptions, refused to accept Jesus’ authority because He did not come in the way they had imagined. God wants us to know His Son, and to believe in Him as King. Knowing Him as King in reality means accepting His rule in our lives – something we read about in Matthew. May we avoid the same mistakes of those unbelieving people, who rejected Jesus as their king and sadly crucified Him.

The book of Matthew helps us acknowledge Jesus as our King, and to understand what kingdom living requries, so we can bring others into His kingdom through our life example.
