OUTREACH MINISTRY TO EUROPEAN: OMG
Peter: I am in London. I have the opportunity to meet Joan Mark, and she is leading a group called OMG. It’s a European care group. Now Joan, what is OMG about?
Joan: OMG stands for Oh My God and it’s a group where we want to reach out to the people in local area in London and yeah we just want to share the love of Christ to those people who love God and need God.
Peter: Joan, how long has the group been up and running?
Joan: It started last year and it came about because Becky and I, we really wanted to have a group where we can share the same humour with Europeans because yeah, I feel quite European myself and Becky was craving for more European contacts being in a very Asian-based church.
Peter: I attended the OMG care group on Tuesday night, it was wonderful, it had so many cultures. Can you share with us about the different nationalities and cultures in your group?
Joan: The majority of the people are locals and Europeans and we’ve got people from Moldova, Poland, Egypt, the Caribbean, they’ve grown up here and we’ve got people from Australia. We just have people from lots of countries which reflect the make-up in London, that’s just how it is.
Peter: Joan, how do you reach out to Europeans?
Joan: I think like the main thing which is probably the same with anywhere you go but it’s friendship, the friendship that we built over the years with other people. So although OMG started last year, before that we’ve been making a lot of friends, with colleagues, and with people that we go out for social stuff; go dancing and stuff like that. Yeah, it’s just really friendship and we start to get to know them and know the things that are more intimate to them and then you know them where God can really touch their hearts because they started to share their hearts with you. It’s generally friendship.
Joan: The first time he came to church, we really felt God is really, you know, on his back, wanting him to know God, and yeah behold, he came to know God the next day after the church service so that was really exciting. Mick, a British man got baptised at the Easter Camp, right? And now he’s been serving God.
Peter: Thanks Joan Mark for really stepping out for God, for your life example being such an inspiration. And God bless you!
Joan: God bless you too!
